Commodore 64 - C64C

Commodore 64 - C64C

Following the critically-acclaimed debut of the Commodore 64 Ultimate in 2025, Commodore has announced a new edition of the hardware that IGN called a "10/10 masterpiece." Now available for pre-order, with shipping to begin in late 2026, the slimline Commodore 64C Ultimate trades the breadbin appearance of 1982 for the Commodore 64's sleeker 1986-1994 look that helped define the form factor of personal computers well into the future.

To produce the most authentic recreation of the Commodore 64C possible, Commodore has reacquired the original injection tooling that was used to create the plastic housing of the original 40 years ago. Initially used for production in Japan, then later housed at Commodore's operations in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Dallas Moore rediscovered the molds in 2014 at auction and restored them.

These later survived a factory fire before being acquired by Individual Computers in 2015. Commodore has now reacquired the tooling from IComp.de, bringing yet another piece of Commodore's history back into the company. It will be the exclusive method of case manufacturing for the Commodore 64C Ultimate, complete with the original 1986 imperfections.

"The C64C molding was created using a 2-point flow pattern that resulted in the plastic cooling unevenly in the original production run, creating feint, semi-circular, flow marks that have largely gone unnoticed," said Peri Fractic, President and CEO + Chief Product Officer, Commodore.

"By using the original tooling, we're even bringing these back. Today these newly formed marks are a seal of authenticity - the unmistakable signature of genuine Commodore parts born from original molds."

Fractic and team recently visited the Commodore hub in The Netherlands that houses the machinery, to examine the tooling in person and verify its fully working condition. Thousands of new cases have already been produced using this restored steel tooling.

Available alongside the original "breadbin" Commodore 64 Ultimate on commodore.net, the slimline Commodore 64C Ultimate will offer identical performance to its predecessor - in a new form factor that has been repeatedly requested by the community. The Commodore 64 Ultimate range brings vintage computing back to life through modern engineering, to drive a faithful, cycle-accurate, and high performance recreation of the original Commodore 64.

It is Powered by FPGA hardware and packed with demos, games, and a spiral-bound user's guide that covers everything from basic use to Basic programming. The Commodore 64 Ultimate has received flawless accolades from tech enthusiasts and tech reviewers alike, receiving perfect scores from the likes of IGN, The Guardian, and Tom's Hardware.

"The Commodore 64 Ultimate has tapped into a nostalgia not just for a piece of technology, but for a time when technology served us not enslaved us; when it challenged us and helped us grow," added Fractic.

"But there's still something comforting about the tangible side of that nostalgia; a visual reminder of the time we long to return to. And for many users, that memory is intrinsically tied to the C64C. Soon they can have one at their fingertips once again."

The C64C Ultimate is available for pre-order starting today at a reduced price for a limited time, and in three editions:

Basic Beige ($299.99) - A flawless replica of the original

Starlight Edition ($349.99) - Translucent case with game-reactive Led case & keyboard lighting

Founder's Edition ($499.99) - Pvd gold keycaps, real 24k gold-plated Commodore and Power badges, and a gently translucent white case

Today's announcement reveals the first of several new products planned from Commodore in 2026. The company expects to announce a number of new initiatives in the coming months, from platforms to accessories that tap into both the "retro" and "futurism" pillars that Commodore is committed to.
